COVID-19 Shelters


IN & OUT OF THE CRISIS (IOTC) SHELTER PROGRAM AT CAMP
SAMAC
August 18th

To align with COVID-19 Stage 3 in Durham Region, the IOTC program at Camp Samac will be ending Intakes to the Camp Samac location after 5:00 pm on Monday, August 17. Intake will be dependent on availability of beds.

After this time, housing providers will be working actively to house the patrons who are currently at this location.

The community of housing and support service partners are currently planning to increase access to permanent, transitional and supportive housing. Please watch for updates as they are available.
Shelter and support will continue to be provided as follows:

24/7 shelter locations at the First Light Foundation of Hope at 253 Simcoe St. Oshawa; and at the Christian Faith Outreach Centre Doors of Compassion at 158 Harwood Ave. South in Ajax.

As of right now, we will transition from Camp Samac on Sept 14 to these
locations. Intake will still remain closed. Formal shelter system will service anyone not currently in the IOTC program. CFOC and FLFOH still operate drop in centres at their current locations. CFOC
Mon – Fri 5pm – 7pm, Sat/Sun 12-4pm. FLFOH 6 – 8 am and pm Mon-Fri

Violence Against Women shelters at The Denise House (1-800-263-3725); Herizon House (1-866-437-4066), Y’s Wish (1-888-576-2997)and Bethesda House (1-800-338-3397).

Safe sleep beds and support at Mission United from 10:00 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.

Monday to Friday support at the Ajax Hygiene Hub from 9 -5 at the Ajax Community Centre.

As our Built for Zero work continues, the goal of which is to end Homelessness in Durham Region by 2024, these locations are working with patrons who are homeless to add their names to the By-Name List. More information about this will also follow.

DURHAM YOUTH SERVICES – JOANNE’S HOUSEJuly 17th

Remains open but currently the shelter is at capacity.

Youth are encouraged to contact the shelter for other options and support if they are struggling. DYS has now implemented an outreach program for the summer months. The goal of this program is to provide youth aged 16-24 in the Durham Region support services wherever they may be. We will be working with clients individually to provide intensive case management in order to help our youth succeed. DYS will be working with the In and Out of The Cold (IOTC) program located at Camp Samac in Oshawa and the Ajax Hub located at the Ajax Community Centre, to provide these services at their locations.

We will be on site at both locations throughout the week, however if available, DYS outreach worker will be able to go where needed through the day in order to support youth needs. The following supports can be provided through intensive case management:

‣Victim Services
‣Emergency Shelter Referral
‣Legal Support
‣Counselling Services.
